Medium Used to create your piece?

What is your piece about?

The group dynamic in a male orientated class of composers.

Does your piece have a title? If no, What would you call it?

Composition Class of 2014

How was your work developed through out this project? Why have you chosen that certain medium?

Started with individual portraits and then progressed to group portraits, I have chosen film because I initially wanted the direct and clear depiction of a group and the photograph developing to film and the minimal movement promoting the confusion with the medium.

What is your favorite type of medium?

Film and mono print.

Do you consider yourself an ‘artist’? How would you describe your style?

I would consider myself an artists and my style is simple film portraiture and basic mono print from mass media.

What influences you with your work?

People and the depiction of masculinity.

What has been the best advice given to you as an artist? What advice would you tell to young artists?

‘ one of the best comments that a teacher ever gave to me was made to our class in Glasgow, “you’re here for four years, don’t feel that you have to leave and be an artist, just enjoy the four years that you have here because you will never have this amount of freedom again”’ Douglas Gordon

Where do you see yourself in the future? Do you have any plans?

I am currently volunteering with Ikon education and learning team I am torn between a career in arts education in galleries and recruitment. At the moment I don’t have any plans, just need to see where life takes me.

What do you consider as ‘good’ art? Art that is great to look at or art that leaves you with an impression?

I think that good art is defined by the impression it leaves in the viewer’s eye, not necessarily a memorable impression at the time or aesthetically interesting but something that lead the viewer to question something that they wouldn’t have questioned before.

What is your favourite piece of Art in the world and why?

Marcel Duchamp’s fountain. Its amazing how the simplicity of a piece can change the perception of art on so many levels.

What comes into your head when you hear the word “Perception”?

Mediation and the change of view.

After hearing about our show so far, what are your thoughts?

It sounds interesting and professional for a first year project.

How do you prefer your work to be displayed?

Simple clean lines.

Do you prefer to display your work yourself?

I don’t mind, but as the projection is hard to set up I am happy to be involved in setting up.
