5 , Year 2
Medium Used to create your piece?
Oil paint, Acrylic, Thread
22” x 18”
What is your piece about?
I was exploring the perception of ideal beauty, and discovered that there was a scientific calculation for the ‘perfect face’. I painted a self portrait, cut it up, and then re-aligned It according to how my face would have been if it followed these aesthetic guidelines.
Does your piece have a title? If no, What would you call it?
‘The ideal face 1’ (Numbered as it’s a part of a collection of work)
How was your work developed through out this project? Why have you chosen that certain medium?
I began painted, but then developed it into a more three-dimensional version of paint as I looked more at using masks and performance within my work.
Do you consider yourself an ‘artist’? How would you describe your style?
Yes, I have quite a grungy free style usually, however this made me be a lot more delicate and precise.
What influences you with your work?
Our own cultures obsession with plastic surgery and horror films.
What has been the best advice given to you as an artist? What advice would you tell to young artists?
Always take advantage of the studio!
Where do you see yourself in the future? Do you have any plans?
Not sure yet! Hopefully a working artist.
What do you consider as ‘good’ art? Art that is great to look at or art that leaves you with an impression?
An impression, through studying at Margaret street I’ve found that a lot of the time it’s a lot more interesting to look at the ideas behind a piece rather than the finished project. Sometimes I’d much rather see someones Studio Diary than their work!
What is your favourite piece of Art in the world and why?
Art is always changing, I think it’s hard to have a favorite piece!
What comes into your head when you hear the word “Perception”?
The different ways of viewing a piece of work, people can see the same piece of work but come to completely different conclusions.
After hearing about our show so far, what are your thoughts?
How do you prefer your work to be displayed?
Not too fussy, it’s cool to be creative with the presentation sometimes.
Do you prefer to display your work yourself?
If it’s delicate yes, if it’s sturdy I don’t mind.
